John Peter Buccieri passed away on Sept. 17, 2008, at home in the company of his loving wife and companion of 26 years, Gail Odell Buccieri.

John was born on July 8, 1907, in Chicago, and he lived a remarkable and exuberant 101 years.

John attended Northwestern University and DePaul University. His business background was with IBM as an executive specializing in record keeping, accounting and data inputting of the early IBM machines. He spent three years in the U.S. Navy and applied his IBM knowledge to run data for the Navy at the Bureau of Naval Personnel in Arlington, Va.

After leaving his home in Chicago, he moved to Toluca Lake in the San Fernando Valley and was employed by the County of Los Angeles, again using his knowledge of IBM computer equipment. He later attended the University of Southern California and attained a Bachelor of Science in business administration, graduating with honors.

John was an athlete all of his life, even into his later years. He excelled in college varsity baseball and lettered in the sport for three years while at Northwestern University. He loved bocce ball, golf, tennis, shuffleboard, bicycling and walking. He was also an avid gardener and tended to his beautiful flowers at Leisure Village in Camarillo.

John was very proud of his Italian heritage. He spoke the language (along with Greek, Latin and Spanish), relished the food, and lived every day with "amour" and passion.

John was a member of the Italian Catholic Foundation and the Knights of Columbus; he was an usher at St. Mary Magdalen Church in Camarillo for more than 28 years, and was a devout parishioner and benefactor of the church.

John is survived by his wife, Gail; along with many wonderful nephews, nieces, grandnephews and grandnieces, and great-grandnephews and great-grandnieces in Fresno, Laguna Woods, Seattle, and Chicago. "Uncle John" was the favorite uncle and an inspiration to all his family. He will be remembered for his love of life by his Buccieri family, his extended Odell family, and by all his close and admiring friends.

2 Timothy 4:7-8 speaks of John: "When I grow old, I want to know I've left something behind … not as an artist, but as a human being who loves and cares and tends and helps other human beings. To do that is to walk in beauty." John's kindness and generosity of spirit will be remembered in the hearts of all who loved him.

In honor of John, a Mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 22, 2008, at St. Mary Magdalen Church, Camarillo (at Crestview and Las Posas Roads), with burial to follow immediately afterwards at Conejo Mountain Memorial Park (on Howard Road). Arrangements provided by Griffin Family Funeral Chapels.
