The Placer Herald, February 2, 1856:
DEATHS
In Yankee Jim on Wednesday the 30th of January Mrs. Mellissa (sic) P. wife of Dr. P.B. Fagan (sic) aged 22 yrs. 10 mos. after a long illness. She leaves behind a disconsolate husband and two children to mourn their irrepairable (sic) loss.
The deceased was known and beloved by a large circle of friends who deeply lament and deplore her untimely end which has deprived them of a kind and affectionate associate. "None knew her but to love her."
The funeral was followed by a large number of the members of the I.O.O.F. to which order the afflicted husband is attached. No care or attention was wanting to render her last moments peaceful and serene. But she was summoned by ONE at whose bidding we must submit and obey.
North Adams, Berkshire Co., Mass, and Fort Des Moines papers, please copy.
