"Two Sons of Charles Buchanan Died Wednesday Night. Father and Another Son Very Low.

One of the saddest afflictions from typhoid fever ever known in this community has occurred in the family of Charles Buchanan, West Waynesburg. A few weeks ago one of his sons came home from Washington, Pa., and was taken down with fever which he contracted while away. This son is now convalescent, but as a result of the illness the father and three other sons were all taken down with the disease at the same time, which proved to be of a very malignant type.

On Wednesday night, last, two sons died, David, aged 17, and Harry, aged 7. Their deaths occurred within a space of two hours, one at 10:30 the other at 12:30. The funerals were both held at the same hour on Thursday, 4 p.m., services being conducted by Rev. J. B. Taylor, of the M. E. church.

A peculiarly sad feature of this most sorrowful affliction is the fact that the little boy lay in an upstairs room with his father and the latter did not know, and perhaps still does not yet know that the little fellow died. Several days afterward when the father had recovered from the delirium and had regained just a little strength, [hard to read] said to the nurse, 'Stand aside, I want to see my baby.' 'Oh! he was carried downstairs several days ago,' was the answer. The whole truth could not be told to him, lest the faint flame of life in the father's body should go out. Two others lay in a downstairs room, but the one now living did not know the other had died, such being the prostate condition of both at the fatal hour. At the time, it was feared that within a day four deaths would occur in the stricken family. The sympathy of our entire community is extended them and we are glad to learn of the improvement of those now ill."
