Mr. Yarborough Passes Away

This community was shocked with sadness when it became known last Sunday morning that one of its very best citizens, Mr. H. L. Yarborough, "Uncle Hutch" as he was affectionately called, had passed away Saturday night. Mr. Yarborough had lived in this community all of his life and was recognized as a man who met the problems of life with a smile; who was wiling always to do his duty as he saw it, who was at all times cheerful and kind, in a word was an ideal citizen and christian gentleman. In church work and in christianly duty Mr. Yarborough has had but one equal in this community and that was in the life of the Rev. Coonrod Plyler, the pioneer of Methodism in this section of North and South Carolina for years. Mr. Yarborough was superintendent of the Sunday school at Prospect for about twenty years and for many years it has been one of the best in the county. He was about 67 years old. He was married twice. His first wife was a Miss Plyler, a sister to Mr. P. P. W. of Monroe and Mr. Joe Plyler of Gastonia. His second marriage was to a Mrs. Susan McGuirt nee Miss Susan Belk. By his first marriage there were three sons and four daughters. The sons are Messrs. Matthew, who is in the service of the U. S. government in Cherokee county, Robert of Kanapolis and Charles of this community. The daughters are Mrs. Ware Carnes of Columbia, S. C., Mrs. Carl Belk, Mrs. Lee Tyson and Miss Nancy of this community. All of the children were able to reach the bedside of their father before he died except Mr. Matthew. There were no children by his second marriage. Mr. Yarborough has two brothers and two sisters, Messrs. Newt and Leonard Yarborough and two sisters, Mrs. Murphy Starnes of Altan and Mrs. Joe Outen of this county, Mrs. Yarborough, the children, the brothers and sisters above mentioned survive. The remains were laid to rest in the cemetery at Prospect Sunday afternoon at five o'clock, funeral services being conducted by Rev. Mr. Forbis in the presence of a large concourse of people and the grave being literally banked with flowers attesting the love and esteem of the people for the deceased.
