James Ruel Baxter, 83, of Stillwater, died on Wednesday, Sept. 17, 2008, in Stillwater. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday in Calvary Assembly of God Church with Pastor Rusty Rhoads officiating. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday in Fairview Cemetery in Pampa, Texas, with Mrs. Sequoyah Reynolds officiating. Family will greet friends from 6 until 7 p.m. on Friday in Strode Funeral Home. Strode Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.He was born on Nov. 23, 1924, in Shamrock, Texas, to George Henry Baxter and Sarah Ona (Cleveland) Baxter. He married Illine Barnett on Dec. 2, 1942 in Pampa.He served as a private in the US Army during WWII and was honorably discharged on Oct. 26, 1943.He was a carpenter and cement contractor, working on many homes and businesses in Stillwater. He was a retired Assembly of God minister, pastoring in Texas and Oklahoma for over 60 years. He pastored at Morrison for 15 years before moving to Stillwater. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Mark Anthony Baxter; two infant sons; one brother, Ralph Baxter; and one sister, Alene Stroup.He is survived by his wife, Illine Baxter of Stillwater; one daughter, Gail Ann Roberts and her husband, Bill, of Stillwater; one granddaughter, Angel Oakes and her husband, Matt, of Stillwater; one grandson, Will Roberts of Stillwater; three great granddaughters, Lydia, Ayla and Macy Oakes of Stillwater; daughter, Sequoyah Reynolds and her husband, Bud, of Texas; three brothers, George Henry Baxter of Borger, Texas, Floyd Baxter of Pampa and Boyd Baxter of Clarendon, Texas; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.Condolences may be e-mailed to the family and an online obituary may be viewed by visiting www.strodefh.com.
