HERMISTON — Recitation of the Rosary for Edith L. Moore will be 7 p.m. Tuesday in the chapel at Burns Mortuary of Hermiston, 685 W. Hermiston, Ave. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Our Lady of Angels Catholic Church. Private family burial will be later at the Hermiston Cemetery.

Mrs. Moore, 97, a longtime resident of Hermiston, died Thursday, May 22, 2003, at Rose Arbor Assisted Living Facility.

She was born Nov. 6, 1905, at Lumber City, Ga., to Joseph and Martha Tucker. As a young child, she moved out West to Winnemucca, Nev., with her family. They later moved to Umatilla. Mrs. Moore was able to obtain some of her training as a teacher before she graduated from high school and received her teaching certificate when she was 18. After several years of teaching at Irrigon, Tualatin, and Hermiston, and attending school, she eventually earned her bachelor of arts degree in education from the University of Oregon. Her teaching career came to an end in 1933 when she married Lloyd Moore at Vancouver, Wash.

The Moores owned and operated L.S. Moore Furniture for 40 years. They also owned several movie theaters, the Oasis in Hermiston, the Mor Theater in Umatilla, and four more in other towns, and had a repair shop and a bowling alley.

Mrs. Moore received the 2002 Oregon Health Care Association Enrichment of Life Resident Award. She was said to be a caring, compassionate person with a tremendously big heart who always tried to help others who needed assistance.

She was a member of Our Lady of Angels Catholic Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd A. Moore, and son, John M. Moore.

Survivors include her daughter, Martha Edmiston of Denver, Colo.; grandson, Mike Edmiston; many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Memorial contributions may be made to Our Lady of Angels Catholic Church or to the Hermiston Library.
