Services Held for William Merkley at First Ward Chapel.

Funeral services for William Merkley, 65, a former resident of Vernal who died Friday in Salt Lake were conducted Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the First Ward Chapel with Jesse A. Haws officiating.

Prayer at the George D. Merkley home was offered by Ed Colton. At the chapel a mixed quartet sang, "In The Garden." The quartet included Mae Jorgensen, Rowena Lambert, Chellus Caldwell and Arthur Manwaring. Invocation was by J. William Workman.

Speakers were H. Walter Woolley and Wallace Calder, R. D. Rust made remarks of appreciation. The closing number was a solo by Mrs. Jorgensen "Going Home." Mr. Rust offered the benediction.

Pallbearers were Jay Merkley, Asher Merkley, John H. Merkley, Bart and H. Merkley and Glen Murray. All musical selections were accompanied by Mrs. Mabel Stagg, Interment was at the Vernal Memorial Park with Bart Merkley dedicating the grave.

Mr. Merkley was born at Unka, Utah July 1, 1879, a son of Nelson and Sanders Sanders Merkley. He served on a mission in the Southern States in 1910 and was active in LDS Church affairs. He had resided in Salt Lske for several years. He died at the Raymond Hotel in Salt Lake following a week's illness.

Surviving him are three daughters, Mrs. Arthur Treven of Boulder, Colorado; Miss Wanda Merkley of Chicago, Illinois; Dorothy Rominger, American Fork; two brothers, George D. Merkley of Vernal; Henry Merkley of Jensen and one sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Hall of Pleasant Grove.

William Sanders Merkley, 65, a resident of Salt Lake City, died August 11, 1944 at 10:20 a.m. of coronary disease at 652 South West Temple, Salt Lake City. His residence had been at Raymond Hotel, 62 1/2 South Main, Salt Lake City, Utah.

He was born July 1, 1879 in Cedar Fort, Utah to Sarah Jane Sanders Merkley and Nelson Merkley Sr. His wife predecesed him in death dying in 1935.

Interment was made in the Vernal Memorial Park, Vernal, Utah.
