Delphos Pioneer Dies At Home Of Relatives At 86

DELPHOS, May 9 - With the death of Mrs. Barbara Rauschart, 86, in Toledo, a link with Delphos's past has been severed, Mrs. Rauschart being one of this city's pioneers. She was widely known here.

For 64 years Mrs. Rauschart lived at Third and Bredeick-sts and has lived here before the community was named "Delphos." Born in Wittenberg, Germany, Mrs. Rauschart came here with her parents, the late Mr. and Mrs. J. Werner, when she was but ten years old.

Following the death of Mr. Rauschart in 1923, Mrs. Rauschart made her home among her children. She had spent the winter with her son Arnold and her daughter-in-law in Toledo and died suddenly after she arrived home from attending a social. She had planned to return to Delphos June 1, and to spend the summer with her children here. Mr. Rauschart was fire chief here before the department was motorized.

It took the family 30 days to make the voyage to America. This community in those days was without railroads and they arrived at Toledo and from there made the last part of the journey to Delphos by boat on the Miami and Erie canal.

Mrs. Rauschart was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran church and of the Ladies' Aid society of the congregation.

Mr. and Mrs. Rauschart celebrated their golden wedding anniversary here in 1917.

The body arrived here Friday night and was taken to the home of her son, Herman L. Rauschart, 703 E. Fourth-st.

Besides her son, in Toledo, and the one here, she leaves five other children, Mrs. Max Planer of this city; Mrs. W. F. Renz of Toledo; Joseph of Cassville, Ind.; Edward of Pittsburgh, Pa.; Emil, also of Toledo; one brother, Jacob of Delphos, 25 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
