Homer was a farmer and railroad employee. He first married Mary Elizabeth England on December 16, 1896. Two daughters were born to this union, Sybil and Mary Dalzia. Homer and Lizzie were divorced about 1900 and he second married Dessie Mae Ball on November 3, 1901. He and Dessie homesteaded in Guymon, Oklahoma in the early 1900's and returned to Missouri in 1918. They lived in a sod house when Marie, Lloyd and Jay were born. They finally built a house and Lewis was born there. After living there about 7 years, they had some crop failures then returned to Siloam, Arkansas where Mary and Herl were born. When Herl was 2 years old, Dessie's parents moved to Osceola, Missouri so Homer and Dessie followed. This was where Alvin, Calvin and Reba were born. They lived in Osceola until all the children were grown then in 1945 they moved to El Dorado Springs and lived there for the remainder of their lives.
