She was the daughter of my ancestors, DAVID & DAMARIS (SAYRE) ATWATER. John Austin & Mercy Atwater were married by MATTHEW GILBERT Nov. 5, 1667 in a double wedding ceremony with her sister, Damaris and her groom, Deacon John Punderson.

Mercy died the same day as her infant son and was buried with him.
