Thomas D. Bess, 77 years old of the Grassy community, died Sunday evening at Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau. He was taken to the hospital Saturday and underwent an emergency operation for an intestinal obstruction. He was born March 7, 1865 in Madison County near Marquand.
He resided in the Castor community all his life, and on the present farm the past 31 years.
He was married in 1893 to Miss Minnie Olive Richards. She died in 1934.
He is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Charley Thomas, Mrs. Roy Barrett, and Mrs. Dee Harris all of Grassy, MO; and Miss Cora Bess of the home; one brother, Marion Bess; and one sister, Mrs. Anna Rhodes of Marquand, MO; thirteen grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
The body was brought to the Baker Funeral Home and removed to the family home Monday. Funeral services were Wednesday at Liberty Church conducted by Rev. W.M. Edwards of Holcomb. Interment was in the Ivy Cemetery.
