Obituary
Melissa (Fenton) McCreedy was born May 17, 1840 at Fluvanna Chautauqua County, New York. At the age of six years, she with her parents, Alonzo and Mary Ann Fenton moved to Green County, Wisconsin, locating on a farm in the Norwegian Settlement. From there they moved to Attica and later one and one half miles east of Attica where she grew to womanhood.
She was married in the fall of 1862 to Cornelius McCreedy who left at once to enlist in the army.
After his return from the war they took up the vocation of farming, following that until his demise in 1915, after which she disposed of her farm and moved to Monticello to spend her declining years. On August 24, 1923, she sustained a fractured hip by a fall, and was taken to the Deaconess Hospital Monroe, later she was taken to the home of her sister, Mrs. O.J. Persons. Her strength gradually waned and she passed to her last sleep November 8, 1923 at the age of 83 years, 5 months and 22 days.
She was one of a family of ten children, her parents, three brothers and three sisters preceding her in death. The surviving are Mrs. Emma Johnson of Evansville, Mrs. O J. Persons of Monticello and Gaylord Fenton of Attica. ...
