Listed as "S.P.V. Arnold" on Oak Ridge records, Mr. Arnold was born in Ohio and died at his home at 703 S 8th, Springfield, IL. He was 43Y, 4M, and 16D and the cause of death was LaGrippe and heart failure.

The funeral services over the remains of the late Stanley P. V. Arnold will be held tomorrow afternoon from his home. Mr. Arnold was one of Springfield's brightest and most energetic young business men, and the abrupt ending of his promising business career is lamented by all. He was born on his father's farm, in Jefferson county, Ohio, Sept. 15, 1856, and at the time of his death was 44 years of age.

He spent his earlier days on the farm, and received his primitive education at a country school house, completing his studies at Norman University at Lebanon, Ohio. His tuition at the college was earned by himself from money derived from teaching school. In 1878 he purchased an interest in the St. Louis Trade Journal, filling a responsible position until 1881, when he sold out and bought the Evening Post, a society paper of this city, which he edited and published for over a year.

In 1883 he was united in marriage to Miss Mabelle M. Wohlgemuth, daughter of Dr. Henry Wohlgemuth, of Springfield. Shortly afterward he moved to Cincinnati, where for ten years he published the Daily Journal and conducted a general printing, publishing and engraving business.

For the past six years Mr. Arnold has been a resident of this city as a general and political newspaper correspondent, and during several legislative sessions has conducted a bureau of correspondence, furnishing reports to nearly one hundred newspapers. He was delegate to the national convention of the People's party in 1896, treasurer of the state committee, and since 1894 has been chairman of the Sangamon county committee of the same party. In 1898 he was the unanimous choice of his party for the house of representatives, and submitted his name to the democratic primaries for the same office. He had more delegates in the democratic county convention than any other candidate. In the Forty-first general assembly of Illinois he was recognized as one of the prominent leaders of the democratic party, and his able efforts were highly appreciated by the party, although the opposing party was greatly in evidence. For several years he has been editor of the Loyal American, a paper printed in this city, in the interest of the Loyal Americans, a newly organized secret society.

During the recent campaign he was one of the foremost leaders in the democratic ranks. Since the agitation for the organization of a park and boulevard system in this city, his beneficial services have been generally recognized, and it is largely through his energy and enthusiasm that so much has been accomplished in the matter of establishing this system. He was elected secretary by the park board last year, and at the time of his death he had just completed a plat for the system, which will undoubtedly be adopted by the city, it being the most systematic and beautiful arrangement which has yet ben presented, and which, if adopted, will be a suitable tribute to the memory of one who was so devoted to the enterprise.

Mr. Arnold is survived by his wife and his father-in-law, Dr. Henry Wohlgemuth, of this city, his aged parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Arnold, of Keota, Iowa, and one brother, H. H. Arnold, and one sister, Cora Arnold, both of Muscatine, Iowa. His parents and his brother and sister will arrive in the city this morning to attend the funeral.
