Richard Washington Adams was born Jun 24, 1839 in Dyersburg, Dyer Co., TN, and died Sep 30, 1901 in Coalgate, Choctaw Nation, Indian Territory (now Coalgate, Coal Co., OK). He married (1) Anna Elizabeth H. "Tip" Pate Aug 7, 1859 in Dyer Co., TN, daughter of Andrew Pate and Martha Thurmond. She was born Dec 3, 1840 in Dyer Co., TN, and died Oct 6, 1881 in prob. Illinois Twp., Washington Co., AR. They had seven children: John Wesley Adams, Richard Washington Adams, Jennie C. "Susan" Adams, Matthew "Mat" Adams, Charles "Charlie" James Adams, George William Adams, and Robert W. Adams. After "Tip" died, he married (2) Adelade "Addie" A. Moring Jun 23, 1890 in Sebastian Co., Arkansas. She was born Mar 7, 1863 in VA and died Oct 29, 1915 in Tipton, Tillman Co., OK. She had had a previous apparently unmarried relationship and had a son, James Arthur Moring, with that man. She and Richard Washington Adams raised that son, and had four daughters: Mary E. Adams, Martha "Mattie" Louise Adams, Lela Adelade Adams, and Dorothy Allen Adams.
Richard was a farmer, "worked on the railroads", a contractor, possibly a miner, and a day laborer in the 1900 Census for Coalgate, Choctaw Nation, Indian Territory just before his death.
He was honest about his debts and showed initiative and courage to move west, seeking a better life.
His brother, James Madison Adams is Memorial #223469060
