Mrs. Antonina D. Cookus,56,who had lived in the Orient for many years before coming to the South Kitsap area,died yesterday in U.S. Naval hospital after an illness of several years.
Mrs. Cookus was born Oct 8,1906 in Harbin,Manchuria. She married Joe Birch Cookus Aug 28,1935 in Tsing Tao,China. A retired chief warrant officer,who survives her at the Port Orchard Rte 6,Box 294 family home.
The couple lived in China, the Philippines,California,North Dakota and other parts of the United States before coming to this area in 1948.
Mrs. Cookus was a member of the Russian Orthodox church,Seattle and of the Fleet Reserve association's branch 138 auxiliary,Port Orchard.
Besides her husband she is survived by a sister, Mrs. Olga Paishin of San Francisco.
Services are pending at Pendleton-Gilchrist funeral home,Port Orchard.
