Cochran was born May 13, 1917, to Rufus John Elvis Cochran and Martha Elizabeth (Schooley) Cochran in Little Rock, Ark. He was reared and educated in the Slick and Edna area. He was united in marriage to Thelma Crauthers Jan. 4, 1944, in Chandler and the family eventually made their home in Cushing.
He entered the United States Army before being married and served overseas during World War II. He worked in Alaska for 25 years and locally as a heavy equipment operator. While in Alaska, he helped in building roads and clearing paths for the Alaskan pipeline. He was a member of the 302 Operating Engineer Union in Alaska.
Cochran loved gardening and taking care of his chickens. He will be best remembered by his children and children for baking them oatmeal cookies on Sunday mornings and having them delivered to their homes before they woke up.
He is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Art Cochran and Junior Cochran; two sisters, Beatrice Alspaw and Lorene Cochran; and one grandson, Frank DeSylva.
Cochran is survived by his wife Thelma of the home; three daughters, Frances DeSylva and husband Ralph N., Cushing; Gloris McEntire and husband Larry, Cushing; Colista Cathey and husband Herbert E., Cushing; one son, J.C. Leonard and wife Debbie, Drumright; one brother, George Cochran, Bakersfield, Calif.; six grandchildren, Lori McEntire, Tulsa; Larry Keith McEntire, Tulsa; Chrystal DeSylva, Cushing; Rachael Baker, Cushing; Tonia DeSylva, Cushing; Mollie Cathey, Cushing; five great grandchildren, Derek, Desiree, Tyler, Morgan, Colista; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
