Elizabeth "Hersbarger" and James Wiles were married on 7 February 1815 in Zion Lutheran Church, Middletown, Frederick County. James died on 12 or 17 September 1827 at the age of 37.
A Frederick County, Maryland, Equity Court abstract regarding the James Wiles estate administration (1827) specifies that Wiles died intestate, leaving a widow, Elizabeth, and six minor children: William, Thomas, Catherine, James, Greenberry, and Henry. A later, 1828 administration record listed four children, omitting Thomas and Greenberry.* In the 1830 U.S. Census, the Elizabeth Wiles household had four children.
Elizabeth Wiles in 1840 was enumerated in Jefferson, Frederick County, but is not found in the 1850 U.S. Census.
In 1860, Elizabeth Wiles was living in the household of her son Henry in Jefferson, Frederick County. She died in 1864 in Jefferson at the age of 68, and known to have been survived by her daughter Catherine Boyer and son Henry.

The inscription on the lower portion of the headstone is a stanza from "How blest the righteous when he dies," written in 1773 by Anna Letitia Barbauld, who was quite famous in her time. Set to music, it appeared in 1800s Protestant hymnals.
Research notes
A person named Greenbury F. Wiles, whose parents are not identified, grew up in Muskingum County, Ohio, where James Wiles, senior, had relations. A person named Greenberry Wiles, born in Maryland, was enumerated in 1860 in the household of Samuel and Mary Wiles in Columbiana County, Ohio.
* Speculation: It may be possible that Thomas and Greenberry were adopted rather than died in childhood.
