HIGGINS, ELIZABETH (BETTY) ANNE

Mrs. Elizabeth (Betty) A. Higgins, 79, died Sunday, August 19, 2007 at Park Meadows Nursing Home in Gainesville following an extended illness. Mrs. Higgins was born in Newport News, VA in 1927. Betty was formally from Plant City, resided in Lake Geneva 20 plus years and had lived in Palatka for the past two years. Betty was an Accountant for the State of Florida, a devoted Christian, long time member of the Keystone United Methodist Church, and volunteered many hours at the Lake Area Ministries in Keystone. Betty had a strong love for her family and friends, and a creative ability to write beautiful poetry. "She will be always in our hearts and deeply missed."
Betty is survived by her children: Edward R. Barry of Brandon, Christopher J. (Doretha) Barry of Lacrosse, George (Bill & Deanna) Higgins Jr. of Interlachen, Melissa A. Higgins of Gainesville, Ginny Colcock of Duluth, Ga. Stepchildren: Linda (Terry) Brewer of Seffner, Joyce Kiefert of Tampa. Grandchildren: Jennifer & Erica Barry of Brandon, Jason & Stacey Barry of NAS Jax, Brian Barry of Lacrosse, Lacey & Shane Robinson, Kyle J. Higgins, Gabrielle Higgins of NC, Dustin Higgins of Interlachen, Daniel & Sara Chamblee of Athens, TX, Stephen Chamblee of Melrose, Mark & Amy Mathis of Plant City, Brad (Karen) Kiefert of CA, Jason (Gail) Kiefert of Virginia & Sheila (Bill) Clark of CO. ; Great Grandchildren: Colby Barry of NC, Spencer Mathis of Plant City. She is preceded in death by her husband: George Williams Higgins, Sr.
In lieu of flowers please make contributions to the Lake Area Ministries.
Graveside services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 22, 2007, with Rev. Don Corbit officiating. Viewing beginning at 9:30 a.m.. Burial will be at Keystone Heights Cemetery. Arrangements are under the care of Jones Funeral Home, Keystone Heights, 352-473-3176.

Betty was previously married to Edward Robert Barry before 1952 and divorced by 1961.
