Mary Belle McDonald was born near Fountain Green, Illinois, January 19, 1858, the daughter of John and Harriet McDonald.
She was one of seven children, five sisters and two brothers.
She was married to Archibald Dorothy of Fountain Green, and to them was born one son, who died in infancy, and one daughter, Mrs. Oscar O'Dell, of Pekin, Illinois.
Following the death of her husband, she came to Carthage, and later was married to James Parker Bell, who preceded her in death.
To this union were born four sons: Harry and Earl of Carthage; Ray of Macomb; and Samuel of Quincy. They, with Mrs. O'Dell and one sister, Mrs. Nannie Dennison, survive. Also surviving her are eight grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.
Three sisters and two brothers preceded her in death.
She became a member of the Baptist church many years ago.
For the past year Mrs. Bell has been at the Sapp Convalescent Home in Augusta, Illinois, where on January 19th she celebrated her 90th birthday.
Funeral services for Mrs. Bell were held at The Elms Saturday, March 29, at 11 a. m., the Rev. W. C. Burk officiating. Interment was in Moss Ridge, pallbearers being her sons, Earl, Ray and Samuel and her grandsons, Charles, Lee and Clinton.~From an original clipping, unknown newspaper, perhaps The Republican, Carthage, Illinois.
