Anchorage resident Alvin Jerry Holliman, 62, died of a heart attack July 16, 2003, at the Kenai River City Dock. Visitation was at First United Methodist Church in Anchorage with a service. Pallbearers were Bob Omstead, Tim Tovsen, Leland Cook, Willy Ferreia, Bill Richards and Mike Craig.

Mr. Holliman was born Aug. 29, 1940, in Birmingham, Ala. He moved to Anchorage in 1964. Mr. Holliman was employed with Alaska Airlines. He was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose and American Legion. Mr. Holliman received the Alaska Airlines Legend Award. He enjoyed being with his family on the Kenai River fishing, and the Crimson Tide football team. Friends said: "Jerry was a passionate and caring person who loved his family, fishing and his job at Alaska Airlines. He worked at the airlines for 39 years and was the number one seniority lead ramp service agent. Jerry held that position longer than any other ramp service agent. His work was more than a job; it was his life. The people he worked with were an extension of his family. There isn't a person who works at Alaska Airlines who wasn't touched by Jerry's kindness and compassion. He was always willing and available to jump in and lend a helping hand both at work and outside of work. "Jerry was a very devoted and loving husband, dad and grandpa. Jerry's granddaughters, Donya and Jerrilyn, say that 'he was the best grandpa in the whole wide world.' "Here in Alaska he was dedicated to his family, friends and co-workers and above all never forgot his roots in Alabama. His homesick heart always found a way to go home every year and enjoy family."

Survivors are his wife, Dona Holliman; daughter and son-in-law, Renee Holliman and Kevin McKinney; granddaughters, Donya Holliman and Jerrilyn McKinney; brothers, Terry and Bill Holliman; sisters and brothers-in-law, Ann and Joel Phillips, Tommy and Wally Allen, and Jean Holliman; and many nieces and nephews. Mr. Holliman was preceded in death by his parents, Marguerite Edna and Euhal Arlington Holliman. Burial was at Angelus Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorial bequests may be made to the Alaska Airlines Employee Assistance Fund, 19530 Pacific Highway S. No. 108, Seattle, WA 98188.
