Some researchers believe Thomas was born in Ireland. Census records for Thomas (1850 and 1860) indicate Pennsylvania. His children also reported their father's birth location as Pennsylvania, except for 1900 when Charles reported Scotland and William reported Ireland.
Thomas was married twice, perhaps three times. There is speculation about his wives' names. Some tree builders have latched onto the name Margaret Eve Donehi as Thomas' one and only wife. The obituary of Jacob Callihan (born in 1820) stated that his mother's name was Eve. Jacob's older sister, Ann (Callihan) Kinney, was born in 1797. Along with Thomas' other children and heirs, Jacob and Ann were named as Thomas' children and received a share of Thomas' estate. The Margaret who accompanied Thomas to Hancock County and died there in 1869, was born in 1788 - obviously not old enough to have been Ann's mother.
