Ernest E Daring was b.1866 in Wright, Schoharie County, New York, to Henry and Catharine M. (Bellar) Daring, the youngest of five children. In the New York Census on 1892, Ernest was 26 yrs. of age, and listed his residence as Wright, E.D.02, Schoharie County, New York. He went West and was in the Linn/Benton County area of Oregon in the early 1900's. He was a college professor and might have taught at Oregon College of Agriculture in Corvallis which is now known as Oregon State University (During the late 1800's - mid 1900's it underwent a number of name changes). Ernest met Bessie Burkhart and they fell in love and married on Dec 27th, 1905 in Albany, Oregon. They were living out of town on Bessie's claim on the Siletz River, about 14m. above the Indian Agency when Bessie was struck with appendicitis and Ernest went to fetch a doctor, one of many. Bessie suffered for about 3 weeks from beginning to the end of her life. A total of three doctors attended her, as well as her husband and two of her brothers (probably Hez and Will), but Bessie died from peritanitis (caused by a burst appendix) on Dec 11, 1906, just 16 days before their 1st anniversary. Bessie was buried at Riverside Cemetery in Albany where other family members are interred. In 1910, the U.S.Census shows that Ernest had moved in Portland, Oregon, having remarried, in 1909, to Laura Myrtle (Seward) Daring, b.1890 of Illinois. Also in the home was her widowed mother, Martha Ella Seward, of Illinois, b.1864. The 1920 U. S. Census again shows Ernest was still married and living in Multnomah Co., Oregon. But the 1930 U.S. Census shows him to be divorced and living as a lodger in a Portland hotel on 6th Avenue. He stated he was a Real Estate agent. He died in Portland on Feb 24,1933 and his remains were brought back to Albany where he was buried next to Bessie, sharing a headstone at Riverside Cemetery in Albany, Oregon.
In 1930, Laura Myrtle Daring was living in Rushville, Illinois with her widowed mother and her son, Ronald Seward Daring (b. Jun 20, 1915 in Portland, Oregon). She told the census taker that she was married and was not working. Her mother was a seamstress. In 1940, Myrtle was living in West Palm Beach, Florida. She paid $22 rent per month and was a typist for a lawyer's office. She stated she was a widow. She never remarried and died in June, 1985; she is interred at Browning Cemetery. Ronald was also living in West Palm Beach, Florida in 1941 and was working for an optical company. He enlisted on July 9, 1941 at Camp Blanding, Florida as a Warrant Officer. He was admitted to a military hospital in Sept 1944 and discharged in Oct 1944. He had sustained a disease in the line of duty and was discharged, having served 3 yrs and 3 months. He married Alma Louise Wright on Aug 4, 1947 at Palm Beach, Florida but they divorced in Monroe, Florida, also in 1947. Ronald died a decade after his mother, on June 1, 1995 in Rushville, Illinois and shares a headstone with his mother at Browning Cemetery in Schuyler Co., Illinois. There was apparently also a baby sister who died in infancy, from reading Ronald's biography.
May they all Rest, at Peace, in Paradise.
