Elmer John Meyer, son of Harry and Margaret (Gerdes) Meyer, was born April 12, 1916, on a farm near Nelson, Nebraska. He passed away on Wednesday, February 3, 1999, at Brodstone Memorial Nuckolls County Hospital in Superior, Nebraska at the age of 82 years.

He attended Smyrna, Abdal and Superior schools. Elmer was engaged in farming in Nuckolls County his entire life.

November, 27, 1941, he married Madeline Katherine Christensen. After a long illness, Madeline Meyer died on August 10, 1956.

Elmer was inducted into the United States Air Force. He served 3 ½ years, spending time in the European Theatre during World War II. In October 1945 as a Tech Sergeant, he received an honorable discharge. Upon return to the United States, he located his family onto a farm west of Bostwick.

December 2, 1958, Elmer was united in marriage to Lorene (Barfknecht) Thomsen. During the rest of their married life, Elmer and Lorene successfully accomplished the merging of two families. Lorene passed away December 18, 1995.

He was a member of Salem Lutheran Church, Superior American Legion and Superior Eagles. He served 12 years on the Bostwick School Board and was a director of the Lower Republican Natural Resources District for 26 years.

He was also preceded in death by his parents and 2 brothers, Richard and Edward.

Survivors include four daughters, Carol Mueller and her husband, Glen of Nelson, Nebraska, Cheryl Russell and her husband, Arden of Mankato, Kansas, Sharon Dickinson and her husband, Doug of Seward, Nebraska, and Yvonne J.Meyer Price and her husband, Stuart of Joplin, Missouri; three sons, Ron Thomsen and his wife Marilyn of Fresno, California, Delmer Meyer and his wife Mary of Concordia, Kansas, and Neil Thomsen and his wife Barbara of Superior, Nebraska; 20 grandchildren, Tracy Mueller of Lincoln, Marsha Mueller of Branson, Missouri, Nathan Mueller and his wife Shellie of Grand Island, Christopher, Eric and Jeffery Thomason of Fresno, California, Patti Thurman and her husband Wyatt of Las Vegas, Nevada, Christopher Saunders, Donna Franklin and her husband Rick of Lincoln, Becky Meyer of Concordia, Kansas, Dawn Russell of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Kristen Russell of Savannah, Georgia, Matt, Katie, Holly and Tyler Dickinson of Seward, Brooke, Kara and Andrea Thomsen of Superior, and Megan Price of Joplin, Missouri; four great grandchildren, Chelsea Thurman and Ricky, Christian and Isaiah Franklin.

Funeral services were held Monday, February 8, 1999, at 10:30 a.m. at Salem Lutheran Church, rural Superior, with Pastor Michael Osberg officiating. Music was provided by Alfred and Janell Hansen as vocalists and Sonja Schmidt as organist.

Interment was in Evergreen Cemetery at Superior, Nebraska, with military rites by the Superior VFW and American Legions Posts. Taps was played by Elmer's granddaughter, Katie Dickinson.

Pallbearers were Elmer's grandchildren. Megrue-Price Funeral Home of Superior was in charge of the arrangements.
