Helen Newman, 97, of Lynch Station, went to be with her heavenly father on
Saturday, August 2, 2014, at Autumn Care of Altavista. She was born on Tuesday,
November 7, 1916 in Bedford County, a daughter of the late John B. Newman Sr.
and Ducky Thurman Wilkes Newman. She was preceded in death by two brothers, John
Bailey Newman Jr. and Colon Osborne Newman. She was a member of Leesville United
Methodist Church. Surviving are her niece, Betty Tuck and husband, Barry of
Huddleston; sister-in-law, Helen H. Newman of Lynch Station; great niece, Mandy
T. Carter and husband, Jamie of Huddleston; great nephew, Michael Tuck of
Huddleston; and great great niece and nephew, Cheyenne and Jonathan Carter.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday, August 4, 2014, at Updike Funeral
Chapel, Huddleston with the Rev. Wayne Murphy officiating. Interment will follow
in Leftwich Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday,m August 3, 2014,
from 3 until 5 p.m. at Updike Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Huddleston.
