In Loving Memory of Virlyn Peacock, Sr.

Mr. Virlyn Peacock Sr., 77, of Blackshear, passed away early Monday morning at his residence following an extended illness. He was a native and lifelong resident of Pierce County.

Mr. Peacock was the son of the late W.W. Peacock and the late Sarah Allen Peacock. He was also preceded in death by a son James E. Crawford Jr., a great grandson Ethan James Crawford, a brother Wendell Peacock, and a sister Jane Allen Howard.

Mr. Peacock, was a retired farmer and also worked many years at Famlee Hardware in Waycross. He was of the Baptist faith and a member of the American Legion Post 181. He was in the United States Army where he served in the Korean War and received a Purple Heart.

He is survived by his wife Joyce Peacock of Blackshear, four sons Francis V. Peacock Jr., Larry Crawford (Connie), Travis Crawford (Cindy), and Keith Crawford all of Blackshear, seven Grandchildren Will Crawford of Blackshear, Janice Crawford Springer (Wesley) of Patterson, Christy Flesch (Eric) of Ft. Bragg, N.C., Dustin Crawford, Drew Crawford (Melissa), Chris Crawford (Sarah), and Kayla Peacock all of Blackshear, nine great grandchildren Haden Williams and Ryan Springer of Patterson, Mackenzie Crawford and Jamey Crawford both of Blackshear, Nathan and Blake Flesch of Ft. Bragg N.C., Christopher and John Thomas Crawford, and Amber Warner of Blackshear, three sisters Adelyn Lee (Thomas) of Waycross, Jimmie Lou Youngblood (ED), of Stone Mountain GA, Mary Ann Page (Lewis) of Columbia S.C..

A funeral service for Mr. Peacock will be held Wednesday (9/10/08) at 11:00 am in the chapel of Smith Funeral Home. Burial will be at Shiloh Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening at the funeral home from 6 to8 p.m. Memorials may be given to Hospice Satilla, American Heart Association, and S.E. Cancer unit.
