Sgt. Bean enlisted in the U.S. Army in 2001, attended Army Airborne School at Fort Benning, Ga., was assigned to the 173rd Airborne Division and stationed in Vicenza, Italy. In 2003, in the first days of Operation Iraqi Freedom, the 173rd jumped into Iraq to open a Northern front. He was honorably discharged in 2005, returned to duty in Iraq in 2007 through the Individual Ready Reserve program and assigned to serve with the Maryland National Guard at Qayyarah-West Airbase in Northern Iraq.Following the memorial service Bean's cremated remains will be taken to a location in Massachusetts.
