George Alexander Pioneer Citizen of State Center Dies

George Alexander, well known local resident and retired State Center farmer passed away Monday morning about eight-thirty o'clock at the Marshall county hospital where he had been taken in February following a heart attack.

Mr Alexander was born in DeKalb county, Ill., on October 30, 1857 and moved with his parents, Mr and Mrs Warren Alexander to State Center in 1865 where the family settled on a farm northwest of town.

He was married to Joanna Werner on December 18, 1882 and was the father of three children. Two of the children and the wife preceded him in death. Following his marriage he lived on a farm in the neighborhood of State Center until 1921 when he retired. Mr Alexander continued to reside on the farm however, with his son, Warren until the latter passed away in 1934. Since that time he had lived in State Center.

He is survived by one son, William Alexander of Colo; five grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren and one sister, Mrs Carl Damman of Baxter.

Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at the Brimhall-West Funeral Home at two o'clock followed by services at St Paul's Lutheran church at two-thirty o'clock in charge of the Rev H P Kumpf, pastor. Music was provided by Vernon Braddy and Mrs J D Swartz, soloists and Mrs Clarence Meier, organist. Pallbearers were Ed Chambliss, William Schaper, August Schaper, Pat Riemenschneider, Ed Bernard and Christ Schaper. Flower bearers were Edith Clark, Doris Ethington, Nadine Grew and Mildred Davis. Interment was in Hillside cemetery.
