DEATH OF J. A. BIGGERS
When it was learned on March 29th that John A. Biggers had passed to his heavenly home, his relatives and friends, far and near, were saddened beyond expression. It was known he was a very sick man, having been in a hospital for the past two weeks, but from time to time it was thought he was improving, until a change came for worse only a few days ago. He suffered greatly, yet it was hoped he might be spared to longer continue his usefulness. Of his going it can be truly said: "A great and good man has fallen in Israel." (?) "Great because of his exemplary life as a husband, father, neighbor and friend; greater still because of his consecrated life as a Christian. He was a valiant soldier of the cross, ever ready to hold up the banner of his King. Only a few days before he departed this life he called his loved ones to his bedside and admonished them to live true to God; to walk in the straight and narrow road that leads to a heavenly home. In his departure he goes to greet a dear wife who preceded him two years. He felt he was in her very presence, and was biding the time to go. He bore his afflictions with great Christian fortitude, feeling they were light when compared to the suffering of Christ and little compared to the glory that awaited him beyond the grave. His wonderful faith, like the faith of Moses, made him rely on the promises of God, and trust Him.
John A. Biggers was born June 30, 1859, in Marshal county, Tenn. Was married to Miss Sarah Petty in 1881, and to this union was born six children, who survive him, all being at the bedside when he passed away. He was a consistent consecrated member of the Christian Church, where funeral services were held Tuesday, March 31, at 2:30 p. m. Rev. H. M. Redford pastor, officiated at the services being assisted by Rev. D. C. Sibley, an old-time friend together with Rev. S. M. Bennett and Rev. J. H. Stewart. Interment was at Arlington cemetery, the last rites being performed by Arlington Masonic lodge, of which he was a member for 25 years. Survivors are five sons: Jim, Ed, and Joe Biggers of this city; Zack Biggers of Big Springs (sic), Millie Biggers of Fort Worth; and one daughter, Mrs. Cora Hutsell, of this city.
Pall bearers were: Edward Rankin, Will Leatherman, Joe Bailey, Jack Palton, Charley Green, and Ben Wilson.
Honorary pallbearers were: Dave Martin, Frank McKnight, Emmitt Rankin, Philip Bailey, Lou Turck, Will Turck, Wm. Knapp, Riley Shelton, Frank Moore, Alton Wilkinson, Quin Grogan, Hugh Smith, Jim Ditto Mike Ditto, Charlie Berry, and E. Foster.
