Son of George Blakely & Martha Mitchell.

"The Hemlocks. This community was greatly startled and grieved to learn that Mr. George Blakely had suddenly died at his residence in East Davenport, May 28th. A few days before he was actively employed in overseeing a gang of workmen on the new C. & C. V. R. R. extension, when without warning he fell a victim to an acute attack of inflammatory rheumatism. Medical aid was quickly summoned and he was speedily taken home, from whence a few days later he was bourne out lifeless. Mr. Blakely was very popular with both employers and employees. His natural sunny disposition, cheerful words and warm handclasps made him a host of friends wherever he went, and these all unite in heartfelt sorrow for his loss and in tenderest sympathy for his bereaved widow and child. In the presence of a crowded house of sincere mourners an appropriate funeral service was held over the remains in the East Davenport Presbyterian church, on Decoration day. After the services the remains were taken to Delhi for interment." ["The Otsego Farmer" (Cooperstown, NY), June 8, 1889, p. 4]
