Mrs. Christina Townsend Dead

Mrs. Christina [Leanna] Townsend, whose maiden name was Boyer, was born in Kentucky, May 1, 1811, and died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Isaac Herbert [Matilda], near Bedford, June 25th, 1907, at the age of 96 years, 1 month and 25 days.

With her parents she moved to Indiana in early childhood. She was married to William Townsend, October 15, 1829, and moved to Illinois, where they resided until 1853, when they came to Iowa and settled on a farm near Bedford, where they remained until the time of Mr. Townsend's death, which occurred January 12, 1878. Since then Mrs. Townsend has made her home with those of her children who live in this region. In early life she was converted and united with the Methodist Episcopal Church, and has lived an earnest, devoted, Christian life.

Hers was truly a Christian home, her husband fully sharing her religious convictions and labors. Her life has been a blessing to many and her influence for good will last many years.

To Mr. and Mrs. Townsend were born twelve children, six of whom, with their father, preceded their mother to the eternal world. The funeral was held at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Isaac Herbert, near Bedford, Wednesday, June 26, and interment was in the Titus cemetery [Graceland]. The funeral service was conducted by Rev. Wm. B. Thompson
