Elsie M. Bessette, age 78 years, a resident of 50 Upper Welden St. in St. Albans City, died Tuesday morning, Aug. 26, 2008, in the Franklin County Rehab Center.
Born in Southington, Conn., on July 16, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Allen and Mildred Dean. She attended schools in Connecticut and on Sept. 5, 1949, was married to George Bessette, who predeceased her on March 24, 2006, following 57 years of marriage.
Elsie was a cook in various types of food services for many years. For several years Elsie worked with children as a foster grandparent, was a member of the Salvation Army and frequently attended CarePartners Adult Day Center (formerly Club Respite).
She leaves her four daughters: Cheryl Phillips of St. Albans, Bernadette Scott of St. Albans, Dore Hoague and husband, Lynford, of Highgate, and Candy Weeks and husband, Edward, of Milton; her six sons, and their spouses: George and Marsha Bessette of Colchester, Steven and Denise Bessette of Alburgh, Randy and Bobbie Jo Bessette of New York, Todd Bessette of St. Albans, Eric Bessette and companion, Laura Laplant, of Swanton, and Scott and Maria Bessette of Highgate; as well as many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by daughter, Donna in 1956; son-in-law, Thomas in 2003; son-in-law, Alan in 2003; and granddaughter, Chelsea in 2007.
A Funeral Service will be held Friday, Aug. 29, 2008, at 1 p.m. from The Church of Nazarene, Upper Welden Street, St. Albans. Pastors Ray and Deborah Mann will officiate. Interment will follow at the Bessette family lot in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, St. Albans City. Relatives and friends may call at The Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Ave., Swanton (868-3331), on Thursday evening from 7 from 9 p.m.
