William H. Pounds, 62, of Mariposa, died suddenly at his home there yesterday. He was a native of Alabama and lived in Mariposa five years.
He leaves a widow, Cela Pounds, four daughters, Zoda Pounds and Mrs. Beulah Johnson, both of Mariposa, Anna Lee Pounds of Fresno and Mrs. Barbara Brewer of Wawona, and five sons, Sidney, Roscoe, Vern, Robert and Gean Pounds, all of Mariposa.
Graveside services in the Brewer Cemetery in the Green Mountain district, under the direction of the Tiscornia Ivers & Alcorn Funeral Home of Mariposa are planned.
NOTES: first the date of birth on his gravestone must be incorrect - according to obituary he was 62 at death - that would give a birth year of about 1877 which matches the 1910, 1920 and 1930 census records along with the California Death Index, the Oklahoma, County Marriages records.
Second note - Middle initial is debated - 1910 census lists him as Farney Pounds with wife and children matching, 1920 census lists him as William F Pounds again wife and child match, 1930 census looks like William H Pounds wife and children match, children's SS applications list him as William H Pounds - Gean's birth record in AZ lists him as William Henry Pounds - all with matching wife's name. And 5 of the CA Voters registrations from the period list him as William H. Pounds.
For now I am going with William Farney Pounds.
