Dr. Charles Adna Smith Jr. graduated from the University of Missouri (Columbia) in Medicine in the graduating class of 1916 with honors. He won the highest honor accorded students in arts and science (Phi Beta Kappa). And also Phi Delta Theta. He was a member of the Scalpel Club; Texas Club; Ad. Club: & Medical Society. He was said to be some golfer, and loved playing pool. He was a very admired Doctor. He was married to Alice Gaggs, & was survived by a son - Charles A. Smith III.

Dr. Charles Adna Smith graduated with honors from the University of Missouri (Columbia) in 1916 with an A.B. Degree, and the coveted distinction - Phi Beta Kappa. He was also a member of the Phi Delta Theta Fraternity, and in the Scalpel Club, Texas Club, Ad Club, & Medical Society. He was said to be some golfer, and loved playing pool. He then attended Johns Hopkins University, and Columbia University, where he received an M.D. degree in 1918. He entered private practice in general medicine, obstetrics, and surgery in Texarkana in 1920, and retired in 1971. Dr. Smith was an honorary member of the Texas Medical Asso., and a member of the Fifty Year Club of American Medicine. He was a past vestryman, and Senior Warden at St. James Episcopal Church, and was a charter member of the Texarkana Kiwanis Club. He was active in scouting for 20 years. He was the son of Dr. Charles Adna Smith Sr. (Chief Surgeon of the Cotton Belt Hospital, of the St. Louis Southwestern Railway Co. in Texarkana, AR.), and Margaret Elizabeth Bonner of Tyler, TX. He was 1 of 4 siblings-Olivia Smith Moore, Marjorie Smith, & one unknown sibling who passed away early in life. He married Alice Kathleen Gaggs on Jan. 2, 1929 in Los Angeles, CA. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Carter Gaggs of 831 South Normandie Ave. in Los Angeles, CA. She is buried beside him in Hillcrest cemetery. He had 2 children that I know of - (William Carter Smith-1936-1936, & Charles Adna Smith III - also born in the 1930's). Charles Adna Smith III was the father of Thomas Carter Smith, James Holland Smith, and Cynthia Smith, all of Little Rock, AR. Dr. Charles Adna Smith Jr. worked at Wadley Hospital in Texarkana, TX., and he was also on staff at St. Michael Hospital. Dr. Smith, his wife, and children lived at 2912 Pine St. in Texarkana, TX. during his lifetime. He was a greatly admired doctor.
