Latrup woman, 19, killed in mishap

A 19-year-old Lastrup woman became Morrison County's seventh traffic fatality this year following a two-car collision Sunday afternoon in Granite Township.

Maureen Kapsner, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Meldan Kapsner, was killed instantly after she was thrown from a vehicle driven by Craig Hanson, 19, of Hillman.

According to Sheriff Fred Pelzer, the accident occurred at 1:06 p.m. at the intersection of County Roads 47 and an unmarked township road. The collision occurred as Hanson was eastbound on 47 and a vehicle driven by Terrence Seppelt, 17, Hillman, was northbound on a township road.

Pelzer said both vehicles left the road after the collision and the Hanson vehicle overturned in a nearby field.

Five other people were injured during the accident. Terrence Seppelt was taken in fair condition to St. Gabriel's Hospital and Hanson was taken to Onamia Hospital. Also injured were Mark Seppelt, 16; Noni Seppelt, 15; Nancy Kapsner, 13; and Arnie Wieczoak, 15. Wieczoak was treated and released for minor injuries at St. Gabriel's. Admitted to St. Gabriel's Hospital were: Mark Seppelt, for observation; Noni Seppelt, in fair condition with chest injuries; and Nancy Kapsner, in good condition. All four were passengers in the Seppelt vehicle.

Both vehicles were totalled in the collision.
