Florida/Northwest Indiana -- Herbert R. Smith, age 67, of Port St. Lucie, Florida, formerly of Northwest Indiana, passed away at Hospice House in Fort Pierce, Florida, after a lengthy illness on Friday, September 5, 2003. He retired after 35 years from Midwest Steel. He was born in Gary on August 17, 1936. He proudly served in the 11th Army Airborne Division, and the Gary Fire Department from 1966 to 1969.
He was preceded in death by one son, David Joel Smith. Survived by wife: Melusca Smith of Port St. Lucie, FL; two sons, Jeffrey Nicholas Smith of London, England and Bruce Anthony Smith of Walkerton, IN; one daughter: Kimberly Rae Luisi of Port St. Lucie, FL; and four grandchildren.
Funeral services Friday, September 12, 2003, 11:00 a.m. at Geisen Funeral Home, 7905 Broadway, Merrillville, IN. Rev. Mike Macchia officiating. Burial to follow at Memorial Park Cemetery, Valparaiso. Friends may call at Geisen Funeral Home, Merrillville on Thursday, 2:00 to 8:00 P.M.
