FROSTBURG, MARYLAND —- Robert William "Reppy" Rephan Sr., 81, died at his homeplace in Frostburg on Monday, June 16, 2008.

Born Dec. 5, 1926, in Eckhart, he was the only child of the late William Henry Rephan and Leah (Eckhart) Rephan.

Bob was a graduate of the Beall High School class of 1944 - the first class to have gone all the way through the "new school." After high school, he served in the U.S. Navy until July of 1946. He attended Frostburg State College and the University of Maryland, and then in 1951 married Ruth Houck Rephan.

He was employed for a time with CIT in the Baltimore area, worked as a delivery driver for the Schmidt Baking Company and was a salesperson for Kelly Springfield Tire Company until he chose to go back to Frostburg State College for a teaching degree, and graduated in 1970. For the next 20 years, he was employed by the Allegany County Board of Education, first teaching history, then moving into driver's education, where he found great pleasure in teaching countless young people how to navigate in what he called "a several ton weapon."

Reppy was a proud member of the Ali Ghan Shrine and its Mounted Patrol and Camper's Club. He also drove for the Shepherd's Unit at Ali Ghan, taking children and families to Shriners' Hospitals for treatments. He was a 55-year member of Frostburg Masonic Lodge 99, a member of the International Assoc. Legions of Honor and a member of the Scottish Rite. Reppy was a lifetime member of the Frostburg Elks 470 and a charter member of Maplehurst Country Club. As a veteran, he was a 50-plus year member of the Frostburg American Legion, Farrady Post 0024.

Mr. Rephan is survived by his wife of 57 years, Ruth Houck Rephan; and three children, Robert William Rephan Jr., Russell Lee Rephan and Rebecca Ann Rephan, along with their spouses and grandchildren.
