On May 8, 1943, Mel married Jean Ross, also of Chicago. In 1945 they moved to Plano to work with Mel's father-in-law, the late William Ross. Mel continued on with the family business, Ross Dairy Service, delivering milk in Sandwich and Plano for the next 40 years.
During the 63 years he lived in Plano, Mel was a member of the Plano United Methodist Church. In former years he belonged to the Plano Rotary Club, Plano Chamber of Commerce, and was a member of the Plano grade school board. An avid golfer, he was a long-time member of Cedardell Golf Club. Mel was known by many for his woodworking talents and his love of antiques.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral Services will be held at 12:00 noon on Saturday, February 2, 2008 at Plano United Methodist Church in Plano, IL. Burial will follow in Little Rock Township Cemetery Plano, Illinois.
