The funeral service for Arlene Lower, 82, of Route 1, Humboldt, who died Thursday at Allen County Hospital, will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Humboldt United Methodist Church. The Rev. Peggy Hillmon will officiate. Burial will be in LaHarpe Cemetery. Waugh-Yokum and Friskel Memorial Chapels, 16 N. Buckeye, is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Lower was born July 16, 1909, on a farm southeast of LaHarpe, the daughter of Willis and Alice Alsop Walker. She attended Golden Valley Grade School and was graduated from Iola High School in 1928. She attended one year at Iola Junior College.

On Dec. 18, 1930, she married Sam M. Lower in Yates Center. They made their home on a farm southeast of Iola. Mr. Lower died March 21, 1962. Mrs. Lower remained on the farm until Aug. 3 of this year when she moved to Countryside Estates Nursing Center in Iola.

She was a 61-year member of the Salem Social Club and had served on the school board for Salem Township for several years. She was a member of the United Methodist Church.

Survivors include four sons, Sam Lower Jr., and Donald Lower, both of Humboldt, Gary Lower of Iola and John Lower of the home; a sister, Gladys Gilbert of Iola; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, George and Fred Walker, and by three sisters, Cecil Brennecke, Hazel Tennyson and Edna Heigler.

The family suggests memorials to the Humboldt United Methodist Church or the American Cancer Society. Contributions may be left at the funeral home.
