As a young man, Harry was a field hand for many years. In the 1910 Federal census he was listed as a servant in the Hoadley household located in Berwick, IL. After marrying Sylvia Frye Gebhart, he opened a small general store at their home in Gilchrist, Illinois around 1916-1917. He and Sylvia had three children; Russel, Dorothy and Marjorie [born 7 1/2 months after Harry's death]. Harry died in 1918 from the Influenza, complicated by diabetes, at his home in Gilchrist, Illinois. Funeral services were held at home, prior to his burial.
