Helen Olive Spiker, 70, of rural Wheeler passed away at 8:10 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 24, 2008, at St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital, Effingham.

Funeral services honoring Helen's life will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Latona Church of Christ with burial in Wheeler Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Blake-Buchanan Funeral Home, Newton, and for one-half hour prior to the service at the church. In loving memory of Helen, memorials may be made to Latona Church of Christ playground equipment fund.

Helen was born Aug. 16, 1938, in Douglas County, the daughter of Keith and Olive (Brown) Dague. She married Dale Spiker July 27, 1958, at Hugo Church and he survives.

Helen was a homemaker and loving farmer's wife, mother and special grandma. She was a member of Latona Church of Christ and an active member of Jasper County Pork Producers. She enjoyed watching sports, especially the Fighting Illini and had been a volunteer and chaperone for Newton High School marching band trips. But, most of all, she enjoyed her family and spending time with her grandchildren.

Helen is survived by two daughters, Kathy (Roy) Davis Jr. of Martin's Ferry, Ohio, and Jill Rueter of Newton; six grandchildren, Jeremy Davis, Shannon Davis, Adam Woods, Delaney Heal, David Rueter and Ridge Davis; brother, Archie (Delores) Dague of Oakland; and sister, Virginia (Lloyd) Johns of Oakland. She was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, Joe Dague.
