Roy is the son of Kentucky native William Anderson Light and Mary Louise Tidwell Light of Missouri. Born in Parker County, Texas, Roy farmed there with his father and brothers. On November 6, 1921 he married Denton County, Texas native Emily Eliza Peaden in Jack County. The couple had four children Royce Sammy, Richard Wayne, Margaret Ann, and Billy Jack at the time of Emily's death in 1938. As a carpenter Roy worked building Fort Wolters at Mineral Wells, TX during WWII.
Roy never remarried and was living in Graham at the time of his death at age 56.
An obituary which incorrectly reported his age noted "Roy Anderson Light, 47, of Graford, Texas died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Harvey Hodnett at Graham, Texas.
Services were held at the Graford Church of Christ."
