J.V. CARTER OF VANCLEAVE DIES
J.V. Carter, 71, lifelong resident of Vancleave, Jackson County, who has been engaged in the timber and contracting business, died at the Biloxi Hospital Wednesday at 3:15 am. Mr. Carter was brought to the hospital Tuesday morning and he was thought to have been on the road to recovery when he took a sudden change for the worse.
All of his family were with him at the time of his death, including his son, Rev J.L. Carter of Meridan.
He leaves his wife, Mrs. Irene Carter; four sons, Noll M. Carter, Paul A. Carter and Carlton Carter, Vancleave and Rev. J.L. Carter, Meridan, two daughters, Misses Myrtle and Willie Nell Carter, Vancleave; a brother, John W. Carter, Vancleave; two sisters, Mrs. Cora Mallette and Mrs. Mahala Rogers Vancleave.
The funeral was held Thursday yesterday morning at 10 o'clock with services by Rev Olia Nix assisted by Rev H.W. Van Hook and Rev. R. Landrum, both of Gulfport.
Relatives from Mobile and Lucedale were present.
