ROBERT ALEXANDER was born in Belmont County, Ohio, January 1, 1820; his father, Peter Alexander was born in 1742 (1776?) and was of Scotch-Irish descent. He married Jane Mitchell, who afterward became the mother of six sons and six daughters; they removed to Belmont County from Maryland and to Worthington Township in 1826 ; be owned three quarter-sections of land north and east of Newville, where he and wife spent the rest of their lives and finally were buried; Mr. Alexander was 86 and his wife 77 when they died, having lived together sixty-two years. ROBERT was the fourth son. He was married to Sophia Stimley February 15, 1848. Benjamin Stimley her father, was born in Pennsylvania, September 29, 1798; married Rebecca Boling, by whom he had a son and four daughters; the Stimleys were Germans and owned 80 acres of land; they removed to Union County where the father died September 1826 and the mother February, 1828. Robert Alexander and wife settled on a part of the home farm, which they afterward owned; they have had ten children, six are living - Harriett, born March 13, 1850; Charles S., April 28, 1852 ; Dayton, January 6, 1859; Eda, March 5, 1861 ; Sarah L., August 27, 1867 ; George A., December 18, 1848; Jane, August 28, 1864; Mary Ann, September10, 1856; Nancy, July 6, 1865. Robert Alexander, at the time of his death, owned 240 acres of fine land on which was a good saw-mill. Mr. Alexander's death suddenly occurred February 17, 1879, aged 59 years 1 month and 16 days; his widow still lives on the old homestead and with the aid of her children manages the estate.
