Joseph "Jay" Walter Horton, 74, of Rocky Comfort, Mo., passed away Wednesday, May 7, 2003, in Freeman West Hospital in Joplin, Mo., following a short illness.

He was born Sept. 12, 1928, in Powell, Mo., the son of Roy and Elsie Gray Horton. On May 15, 1959, he was united in marriage to Ella Mae Solley, who survives.

He is also survived by two sons, David Horton and Bobby Horton, both of Rocky Comfort, Mo.; one daughter, Beth Creason and her husband, Clark of Anderson, Mo.; two brothers, Bob Horton and his wife, Ruth, and Charles Horton and his wife, Faye, all of Rocky Comfort, Mo.; and six grandchildren, Tawsha Creason, Neal Creason, Andrea Creason, Megan Panian, Felisha Holliday and Nikki Babbs. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Eddie Horton; and three sisters, Lorene Carroll, Faye Carlin and Sarah Brewer.

Jay, as most knew him, spent his entire life around the Rocky Comfort area. From 1965 until 1974 he was employed with Kraft Foods, hauling milk. Around 20 years he worked in the maintenance department at Fasco, retiring Sept. 16, 1994. He also ran his cattle farm and raised a garden throughout his life. He was a member of Living Word Mission Church.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 10, 2003, in McQueen Funeral Home in Wheaton, Mo. The Rev. Billy Joe Gentry will conduct the services. Burial will be in Union Cemetery in Rocky Comfort, Mo. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday in McQueen Funeral Home in Wheaton, Mo. Contributions may be made to Living Word Mission Building Fund in Jay's memory.
