W.G. BARNWELL DIED SUDDENLY LAST MONDAY; The Arcadian;
Walter G Barnwell, native lifelong resident and prominent rancher and citrus grower of DeSoto County, died Monday May 15, after a short illness at Arcadia General Hospital.
Mr. Barnwell was born March 4, 1900, in Fort Winder community and had spent his entire lifetime in that area. He was for many year prominently identified with the cattle and citrus business of that area and was prominent in community affairs. He was a member of the Baptist Church.
He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Evelyn Keen of Fort Winder; a son S/SGT. Robert J. Barnwell of Falmuth, Mass;, two daughters, Mrs. Harry Johnson, Owens community; and Mrs. Wayne R. Jones of Arcadia; three brothers, Albert V. Barnwell of Fort Ogden; W. R. Barnwell and Oscar Barnwell of Fort Winder; two sisters, Mrs. Malcome Fort of Fort Ogden, and Mrs. W. A Young of Fort Winder.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday afternoon at 2:30 at the Owens Cemetery with the Rev. J. D. Robinson and the Rev. Dow Durrance officiating. Burial will be in Owens Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be, Floyd Mizelle, Everette Mizelle, Clayton Boggess, Clinton Beasley, George Hayden and Albert Thornton.
Robarts Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
