James parents were Nathan (b.Sept. 28,1759 - d. March 10, 1813 in Farmington, NY) and Isabel (Grinnell); married on March 26, 1783 in Windsor, Mass.
James' maternal grandmother, Ruth Clark Grinnell was full-blooded native American Indian.

Siblings: Nancy, Amaziah, Obadiah, Phebe, Johannah, Clarissa, Lewis, Mary & Isabella Wescoat.

James served in the War of 1812. 19th Inf Mass. and married Sarah Jane Brooks in 1817 in Crawford County, Pennsylvania.

He was the father of Nathan (b.1818), Mary Ann (b.1820), William Arthur (b. 1823), baby Wescoat (b.1827), Austin (b.1829), Eliza Jane (b.1830), Isabell (b.1831), Margaret (b. 1834) and Emily Jane(b.1836).

James and his brothers (Amaziah & Louis/Lewis) moved from New York state to Geneva, PA (which is near to what was once known as Sutton's Corner). All 3 brothers were laid to rest in Row B. Louis/Lewis' stone reads: Louis, however most official documentation has him listed as Lewis.

NOTE: 3 Brothers - James WESTCOAT, Amaziah WESCOAT & Louis/Lewis WESCOATT; surnames are ALL 3 spelled differently on their headstones.

The spelling of the surname Wescott varies widely even among SPOUSES.
Example: James & his wife, Sarah Jane Brooks laying side by side have different surname spellings on their headstones! The Westcoat, Wescoat, Wescoatt, and Wescotts buried in Geneva Memorial cemetery are ALL from the same family tree.
