He was a son of the late John W. and Bessie R. (Emig) Bollinger.
As a young man, John was employed by York Cone Company. Following graduation from William Penn High School in 1932, he worked as a pattern maker at S. Morgan Smith Co. until he joined the U.S. Army during World War II, in the anti-aircraft division. His unit was deployed to the South Pacific on the island of Saipan. While there, John made furniture for both the Officer's Club and the Enlisted Men's Club.
After the war, John returned to the pattern shop at S. Morgan Smith and later worked with Herman Noss Co. as a mill worker. He founded Master Wood Products, a woodworking shop, which he owned and operated from 1947 until his death. John also worked as foreman in the wood shop at Yorkraft and with Roth Brothers as a church furniture maker. He was passionate about woodworking and was known in the community for his fine craftsmanship. John was a member of Grace Lutheran Church of Roundtown.
He was the loving husband of Kathryn J. (Smyser) Bollinger, with whom he celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary April 25, 2008, and surviving, in addition to her, are two daughters, Patricia J. Koerner and husband, David of York and Pamela S. Bollinger of Joppa, MD; a son, Jeffrey E. Bollinger and wife, Kim of York; four grandchildren; a greatgranddaughter; a nephew; and a niece.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Christine Bollinger.
