Indian Sally, Sarah Baptiste, whose lastname suggests that she had baptized at a mission, married a non-Indian, Joseph Priest, and they were allotted or homesteaded 160 acres of land near Midpines still held by their heirs. She is said to have been held in a camp set up by Captain John Fremont near Coulterville when Priest found and rescued her.
