Ila Belle "Sis" Herndon was born February 20, 1909 to William Benjamin and Margaret Ann Rediger Herndon at Hydro, Caddo County, Oklahoma. She was raised with her three brothers and three sisters on a farm south of Hydro which was purchased in 1909 by her mother, Margaret A. Herndon. She attended and graduated from Hydro High School.
Ila "Sis" Herndon and Harold Eakins were married on February 21, 1931 at Hydro, Caddo County, Oklahoma and in 1938 purchased a farm south of Hydro from Sis's parents. The couple raised their five children on this farm.
After the death of her husband, Sis worked for many years at the local newspaper, The Hydro Review and also worked for Dr. Ralph Buller until her retirement. Sis died on May 7, 1973 and is buried next to her husband in the Hydro Masonic Cemetery, north of Hydro, Oklahoma.
