Mattie is survived by one son Clyde and his wife Gloria Burkhart of Bentonville, VA; one daughter Joan Lewis of Manassas, VA; sister-in-law Lynne Alger of Bentonville, VA; three grandchildren: Clyde and his wife Katrina Burkhart III, Bonnie McDonald and friend Junior and Andrea and her husband Charlie Weakley; four stepgrandchildren: Shelia and Andrew Barnett, Wanda and Gary Watts, Lee and Tammy Pearson, and Michael and Theresa Curtis; seven great-grandchildren: Todd and Cassie Nickels, Averi LaRue, Clyde Burkhart IV, Keith McDonald, Hannah Richards, Matti Jo Weakley and Kenna Weakley; great-great-granddaughter Autumn Nickels; and lifelong friend Rowland Fultz of Front Royal, VA. In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her husband of 58 years Clyde Vincent Burkhart, Sr. and a son-in-law Kenny Lewis.
Mattie enjoyed her photography, annual family re-unions and spending time with her grandchildren. She also enjoyed life and gardening.
Visitation will be held on Sunday from 7-9 PM at the Turner-Robertshaw Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Monday at 2:00 PM at the Turner-Robertshaw Chapel with Reverend Doctor Larry Lee officiating. Interment will follow at Alger Cemetery in Rileyville, VA.
